The Cathedral of the Incarnation is excited to host its first-ever gala dinner/dance in the nave. The "Moondance in the Nave,” scheduled for Friday, May 2, 2025, promises an enchanting evening of music, dancing, food and fellowship under a colossal lunar art installation.
The gala, which begins at 7:00 PM, is the centerpiece of the Cathedral's "Moon as Sacred Mirror" installation, a touring version of UK artist Luke Jerram’s sculpture. It features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface, with each centimeter representing 6km of the moon's actual surface.
Guests will enjoy cocktails in the undercroft before moving to the nave for dinner and dancing beneath the stunning 20-foot diameter moon sculpture.
Dean Michael Sniffen of the Cathedral expressed his excitement about the event: "We're thrilled to transform our sacred space into a celestial ballroom for one magical night. This gala not only celebrates the artistry of Luke Jerram's Museum of the Moon but also supports a cause close to our hearts – the preservation of Garden City's historic Stewart buildings.”
All proceeds from the gala will benefit the Stewart Historic Buildings Preservation Fund, dedicated to maintaining original Garden City structures associated with the town's founder, Alexander Turney Stewart, most notably the Cathedral building itself and See House (the historic home of the first bishops of Long Island now housing office space for diocesan entities and the cathedral staff).
The evening will feature catering by local favorite Prime Catering and live music by Manhattan Rhythm Machine. Attendees are encouraged to don cocktail attire, with black tie optional.
Tickets for this unique event are available on Eventbrite with various sponsorship levels for those wishing to provide additional support.
As our diocesan family prepares to welcome this lunar spectacle, the Moondance Gala promises to be an unforgettable night of history, art, and community under the light of a very special moon.
