Attention prospective vergers! The Verger’s Guild of the Episcopal Church – Long Island Chapter is offering a (mostly) online workshop for individuals interested in becoming a Fellow of the Verger’s Guild.

This four-session workshop will be held on Zoom on Monday evenings at 7:30PM, starting on January 22, February 5, and March 4 and in-person at the cathedral on Saturday, February 17th at 1:00PM. Members of the Guild and clergy people from around the Diocese of Long Island will facilitate the sessions, discussing topics such as:

  • Pastoral Concerns, Safe Church and Developing a Parish Safety Plan

  • The Book of Common Prayer, Canons and Sacraments of the Church

  • Special Liturgies

  • ..and many more.

We are pleased to announce that our guest speakers include:

  • The Rev. Matthew Sanfilippo (NYPD Ret.), Curate, Church of the Ascension Rockville Center

  • The Canon Ted Gerbracht, Director of Academic Programs, The George S. Mercer School of Theology

  • The Rev. Cn. Michael Delaney, Bishop’s Chaplain and Diocesan Precentor, Diocese of Long Island

Our keynote speaker will be the Rt. Rev. Bill Franklin, assisting bishop of the Diocese of Long Island, who will deliver remarks on the “Revolution of the ’79 Prayer Book.” Bishop Franklin’s address will focus on the importance of the ministries of the lay person and how those various ministries (including that of the verger) are supported and uplifted by our prayer book. Bishop Franklin’s address will be in person at the Cathedral and will include a Eucharist and lunch.

The workshop cohort will conclude with an Evensong for Eastertide and Verger Convocation at the Cathedral on April 7 at 4 pm with the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Provenzano, presiding. Bishop Provenzano will induct our cohort into the Vergers Guild – it will be a very festive occasion!

There is no fee associated with the workshop, but membership in the VGEC is suggested.

For more information, please email the Dean’s Verger of the Cathedral, Mr. Kyle Sabo, FVGEC at vergers@IncarnationGC.org . Registration is required no later than January 17.
