We are people of moral courage. We are guided by the shared values of dignity, justice, and peace. These values don't change with each election cycle.
In this moment of waiting and uncertainty, as our country determines our next elected leaders, we choose to step forward as people of faith – standing firm in who we are and who God has called us to be.
We choose to reaffirm our commitment to one another and these shared values, knowing that when we stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the struggle for justice, we are more powerful, more sustainable, and closer to a world where the dignity of all is recognized and upheld.
Join Us, November 6th, the day after the election, will be a tumultuous time for our country and the world. People will be anxious – refreshing phones and looking for clear answers that may not be immediately available. Our hearts will yearn for a place to feel safe, to wait and reflect, and to experience peace.
You’re invited to join us at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine at 7 PM for a post-Election Day Interfaith Vigil for the Healing of the World. We will gather across differences to ease each other’s fears, trust that there is always a path forward together, and proclaim a message of hope and peace.
At 6:30 pm on the Cathedral steps we will be joined by the Rt. Rev. Matthew F. Heyd, 17th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York; the Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network; the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Provenzano, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island; the Rev. Dr. Chloe Breyer, Executive Director of the Interfaith Center of NY; the Very Rev. Lydia Kelsey Bucklin, President and Dean of Episcopal Divinity School; Rabbi Hilly Haber, Director of Social Justice Organizing and Education at Central Synagogue; the Very Rev. Patrick Malloy, Dean of the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine; Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, Executive Vice President of The New York Board of Rabbis; along with other prominent faith leaders and justice advocates.
The Cathedral will be open for prayer from 9:30 AM to 9 PM, with the day concluding with an interfaith service at 7:00 PM. For more information and to register, click here.
