A celestial experience is coming to Long Island this spring as the Cathedral of the Incarnation launches the "Moon as Sacred Mirror" program, featuring the internationally renowned "Museum of the Moon" installation from April 11 to May 4, 2025. This marks the first time this awe-inspiring, 20-foot illuminated lunar sculpture—created by British artist Luke Jerram—will be displayed in a U.S. house of worship.

Featuring detailed NASA imagery of the moon’s surface, the installation will be suspended in the Cathedral’s grand nave, creating an unforgettable fusion of art, science, and spirituality. Arriving just in time for Holy Week, "Museum of the Moon" offers a rare opportunity to explore the profound relationship between the heavens and sacred space.

"We are honored to welcome this extraordinary installation to our Cathedral," said Dean Michael Sniffen, 13th Dean of the Cathedral. "The ‘Moon as Sacred Mirror’ program reflects our mission as Long Island’s center for prayer, learning, culture, and the arts, inviting all to engage with the intersection of faith and creativity."

A Month of Immersive Programming

To complement the installation, the Cathedral will host a series of special events, including:

  • Guided Tours – Experience the lunar installation alongside the rich history of the Cathedral.
  • Gala Fundraiser – A benefit supporting the Historic Stewart Building Preservation Fund.
  • Moonlit Music & Entertainment – Featuring a local craft beer festival and a Pink Floyd tribute concert.
  • Wellness & Reflection – Special yoga sessions and organ recitals inspired by the moon.
  • Cosmic Conversations – Academic lectures from Adelphi University scholars on lunar and cosmic themes.
  • Family & Educational Activities – Interactive programs for all ages.
  • Undercroft Art Exhibition – Presented by Trinity Community Arts Center.

Support & Sponsorship Opportunities

All proceeds from sponsorships will fund critical preservation and accessibility initiatives at the Cathedral. Sponsorship packages are available at multiple levels, with details upon request. The deadline for sponsorship commitments is March 12, 2025

"This installation is more than an artwork—it’s a bridge between the sacred and the celestial," added Dean Sniffen. "We invite the entire community to witness this remarkable experience, where art, faith, and wonder unite."
